Request a Mentor
If the option for Mentors/Mentees has been made available to your system, AND you have the SFIA Business Skills (Generic Attribute) of Level 4 or greater in your Skills Profile, you will automatically have the option to establish yourself as a Mentor. This will be shown with an additional Button in your Skill Profile called Become a Mentor:

Selecting the Become a MentorFrom your Action Plan, provided this option is available to you, you are able to Request a Mentor to help address some skill gaps, or just to assist in some way or other.
In order to match yourself with a Mentor, you will need to first establish or update your Mentor Preferences.
Mentors will be offered to you based on matching of your Professional Skill Gaps, and your selected Preferences. Or you can also elect to match based only on your Preferences, should you require a Mentor for aspects unrelated to Professional Skill gaps.

Establish your Mentor Preferences
You should only need to do this once or only occasionally should your preferences change.
Selecting the Mentor Preferences button will set off a dialogue window in which you can establish a Mentor Profile Preferences by selecting, from the list of options provided, the Options that you wish to be matched against, when a Mentee is seeking a Mentor. Basically by establishing a Mentor Profile, you make yourself available as a Mentor. You will be matched as a Mentor based on your relevant Professional Skills, and the Mentor Profile: e.g.
Select the Profile looking for a Mentor.
Select the Options that you wish to be matched against. You must select at least 1 Option to be visible as a Mentor.
Then use the Save button to establish your Mentor ProfilePreferences.
You will get the following Prompt, and you can choose to Save your profile or Cancel the changes:
Press Save OK or Cancel as required
Once you are established as a Mentor you will the Become a Mentor button will be replaces by 2 new buttons:
Update Mentor Profile - Used to edit your Mentor Profile and make changes to the Options, or remove yourself as a Mentor
Mentee Request - Used to track and select Mentee Requests, and establish Mentor/Mentee Relationships
, and you should get a Confirmation prompt in the Top Right hand Corner.

Finding a Mentor
ProfileHaving To find a Mentor Profile is the basis for your being established as a Mentor. To make changes to your Mentor Profile:
Use the Update Mentor Profile button.
Make the required changes to your Profile by selecting/de-selecting options.
Note:Uncheck ALL selections to remove yourself as a mentor. However, you will remain a mentor to those who you have previously accepted requests.Use the Update button to Save the changes.
You will get the following Prompt, and you can choose to Save your profile or Cancel the changes:
Press Save or Cancel as required
Checking and Accepting Mentee Requests
You will receive automated Emails when someone Requests you as Mentor.
To check the Mentee Requests:
Use the Mentee Request button.
If there are no Requests yet, it will display as No Data:
Find a Mentor button
If a Mentor is available that matches your criteria, then you will get a list of possible mentors:
Above we see there is only 1 Mentor that matches, and shows their Skills/Lvls that match your own Skill Gaps, (including a % match calculation).
If you choose to Connect with one of the people in the list then:
Select them e.g.:
And then use the Connect button to Request a connection.
You will need to confirm your request via the Pop message:
Press OK to confirm, or Cancel to Cancel your Request
You should recieve receive the follwing following prompt in the top Right Hand Corner of a successful Connection Request:
Your List will refresh with that Mentor removed from the list to prevent a duplicate request:
You can close the List pop-Up using the X
You Requested Mentor will receive an Email regarding your request, and has the option to Connect or not.to Accept or Decline your request.
If/when your Mentor decides to Accept or Decline your request you will receive an Email confirming their acceptance or Decline, including a comment they are required to include regrading their action. e.g.
The Email provides sufficient information to allow you to begin communicating with them.
If accepted, there will be a Mentor/Mentee relationship established, and your Mentor will have access to all your information, including your Action Plan and Actions. They will in fact have similar access to a Line Manager, and able to make changes to your Action Plan, although we very much expect and encourage this would normally be carried out in with your approval to do so following communication.
We would also recommend that this Mentor action would be documented as an Action in your Plan, usually with a Mentorship style classification. (This will however depend on what Action Types have been made available to you)
